According to the Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA), the Blue Flag beaches in this region include Marina, Trafalgar, Southport, Umzumbe, Ramsgate, Hibberdene, and St Michaels (Pilot).
The presence of a Blue Flag at a beach serves as an indicator for the local population that a safe swimming experience is assured. This includes lifesaving provisions, clean seawater, and other safety measures adhering to stringent international standards related to beach management. These standards encompass cleanliness, safety, water quality, facilities, accessibility, and environmental stewardship.
